ARKET presents S/S 2024 collection: A new bohemia
Rooted in a hopeful longing for renewal, the ARKET SS24 ready-to-wear collections set the mood for a season that breathes freedom and ease. Manifesting a craving for connection towards the cyclical nature of the seasons, the womenswear collection uses tactile, premium qualities with reflective connotations. The menswear collection, in turn, places ongoing preppy references amid imagined and dreamlike Mediterranean summers – a relaxed, nostalgic headspace evoking anticipation for change.
‘With this womenswear collection, we work with relaxed, soft, elongated silhouettes on essential garments in premium qualities. Tactile, natural materials that age well are paired with crisp white essentials. Products that allow to relax, feel free, hit the road: a new form of bohemia where new values and cultural forms can unfold,’ says Ella Soccorsi, ARKET Head of Design and Creative.
‘For SS24, ARKET menswear follows the heritage direction looking to the effortless sophistication of Mediterranean summers and their bohemian spirit. The smart and preppy look of American Ivy League heritage, an ongoing reference, takes in French workwear, denim and utility clothing for a relaxed and sophisticated wardrobe,’ says Erik Schedin, ARKET Head of Menswear Design.
For women, silhouettes are elongated and flimsy, with flared and fluted hems and fabric structures that evoke a crude, earthy tactility. Openwork knits with tape yarns, raw silk with a nep surface and a fresh and sand-coloured take on leather are some of the collection’s most significant proposals, balanced with consistent ARKET signatures like shirting, jersey staples and knitwear. Organic shapes run through the collection – stones bring introspection to jewellery; stiffer elements like tailoring and denim are decidedly softened, rounded buckles and eyelets add experimental interest.
For men, shapes remain loose across all clothing. Notes of washed reds and blues offset a palette of ecru and deep indigo, with loose knits, suede, corduroy and paper poplin as textural markers. The ease of sets goes beyond the brand’s signature tailoring: an indigo denim set of overshirt and shorts and a corduroy trucker set are some of the collection’s offerings of separates. Great significance is given to timeless, transitional outerwear staples – including the cotton and linen blouson, the oversized car coat and the suede zip jacket – effortlessly balancing the worlds of academia, utility and leisure.
Following the brand’s ever-present commitment to more sustainable practices, the collection has been devised from a mindful palette of materials that includes Responsible Wool Standard-certified wool, Texloop’s blend of recycled and organic cotton, ECONYL® recycled nylon, organic cotton, chrome-free tanned and vegetable tanned leathers and recycled brass.
